Learning goals
  • brainstorm a project idea in context of industrial automation

Robot arm picks and places an object

At the end of this course you will create a solution for an industrial automation problem. Your project should contain the following:

  • a C#-based PC program with a user-friendly interface

  • a URScript-based program for a robot arm featuring sensors like camera, distance sensor

  • a database that contains, e.g., robot program/s, users

  • characteristic aspects of:

    • Industry 4.0, e.g, robots automatically retrieve customer jobs from a database.

    • Industry 5.0, e.g., collaboration between human and the robot (not replacement by the robot).

Activity 1

What is an industrial automation problem that you would like to solve with a pick and place robot and programming? Examples:

  • Smart robot arms in a wind turbine factory: robots automatically retrieve customer jobs from a database and customize rotor blade components with human oversight

  • Collaborative robots in pharmaceutical production: robots handle packaging and assembly, while operators intervene for quality checks

  • Automated robotic sorting of electronic parts for hearing aids: voice-activated robot workstations assist technicians in sorting

Steps:

  1. 4 min Work individually

  2. 2 min Discuss your idea with your partner

  3. 3 min

    1. Go the to the virtual classroom and share your idea in the chat.

    2. Read other ideas and give feedback on:

      • if it is compatible with requirements use 👍

      • if you find the idea creative use 😍

Probably your idea will change later when you begin working with the robots. These ideas and the brainstorming can serve as inspiration for later point, though.
